Vienna Austria
Starting as a military camp created by the Roman Empire under the name Vindobona, Vienna quickly grew to be the capital of first the Babenberg dynasty followed by the Austrian Habsburg family. It then became one of Europeans biggest towns during the 19th century.
Vienna always was a crossroad of cultures, bringing their own flavor to the town. The remainders can be experienced as sights in town, in more than 100 art museums in town or heard in concerts given by famous orchestras in Vienna concert facilities. We recommend to visit spots as Belvedere, Albertina, Leopold Museum, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Naturhistorisches Museum, KunstHausWien, BA-CA Kunstforum, and Technisches Museum Wien.
If you are interested in ancient buildings you should definitely see churches as St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Karlskirche, Peterskirche, Ruprechtskirche, Schottenkirche, Minoritenkirche, and the Votivkirche. More ancient buildings are the parliament, the townhall (Rathaus), Burgtheater, the Vienna opera house, which houses the famous opera ball once in a year, and the Viennese university. All these buildings can be viewed from the 100 meter high Donauturm with its slowly rotating restaurant.
